President Barack Obama
says the US should take military action against Syria and he will seek
congressional authorisation for intervention.
The US says the Syrian government carried out chemical weapons attacks on 21 August in which 1,429 people died.
Mr Obama said the operation would be limited in duration and
strong to deter future chemical attacks. Congress is due to re-open on 9
September.
The Syrian government denies it was behind the attacks and blames rebels.
UN inspectors have now left Syria with samples from site visits, which will go to laboratories in Europe for testing.
'No blind eye'
President Obama said the military operation could happen tomorrow, next week or in the near future.
"We cannot and will not turn a blind eye to what happened in Damascus," he said.
As commander-in-chief, Mr Obama has the constitutional authority to order military action without the backing of Congress.
However, he said it was important to have the debate.
Last week, British MPs defeated a government motion to take military action in Syria.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has challenged the US to
present to the UN evidence that Syria attacked rebels with chemical
weapons.
Mr Putin said it would be "utter nonsense" for Syria's government to provoke opponents with such attacks.
Russia - a key ally of Syria - has previously warned that
"any unilateral military action bypassing the UN Security Council" would
be a "direct violation of international law".
Moscow, along with China, has vetoed two previous draft resolutions on Syria.
A jury in South Bend, Indiana has found that fraud put President
Obama and Hillary Clinton on the presidential primary ballot in Indiana
in the 2008 election. Two Democratic political operatives were convicted
Thursday night in the illegal scheme after only three hours of
deliberations. They were found guilty on all counts.
Former longtime St. Joseph County Democratic party Chairman Butch
Morgan Jr. was found guilty of felony conspiracy counts to commit
petition fraud and forgery, and former county Board of Elections worker
Dustin Blythe was found guilty of felony forgery counts and falsely
making a petition, after being accused of faking petitions that enabled
Obama, then an Illinois Senator, to get on the presidential primary
ballot for his first run for the White House.
Morgan was accused of being the mastermind behind the plot.
According to testimony from two former Board of Election officials
who pled guilty, Morgan ordered Democratic officials and workers to fake
the names and signatures that Obama and Clinton needed to qualify for
the presidential race. Blythe, then a Board of Elections employee and
Democratic Party volunteer, was accused of forging multiple pages of the
Obama petitions.
"I think this helped uphold the integrity of the electoral system," the prosecutor, Stan Levco told reporters.
“Their verdict of guilt is not a verdict against Democrats, but for honest and fair elections,” he said.
American intelligence agencies
had indications three days beforehand that the Syrian regime was poised to
launch a lethal chemical attack that killed more than a thousand people and has
set the stage for a possible U.S. military strike on Syria.
The disclosure -- part of a
larger U.S. intelligence briefing on
Syria's chemical attacks -- raises all sorts of uncomfortable questions for the
American government. First and foremost: What, if anything, did it do to notify
the Syrian opposition of the pending attack?
In a call with reporters Friday afternoon, senior administration
officials did not address whether this information was shared with rebel groups
in advance of the attack. A White House spokeswoman declined to comment on
whether the information had been shared.
But at least some members of the Syrian opposition are already
lashing out at the U.S. government for not acting ahead of time to prevent the
worst chemical attack in a quarter-century. "If you knew, why did you take no
action?" asked Dlshad Othman, a Syrian activist and secure-communications
expert who has recently relocated to the United States. He added that none of
his contacts had any sort of prior warning about the nerve gas assault --
although such an attack was always a constant fear.
Razan Zaitouneh, an opposition activist in the town of Douma, one of the towns
hit in the Aug. 21 attack, said she had no early indication of a major chemical
attack. "Even the moment [the attack hit], we thought it was as usual, limited
and not strong," she told The Cable in an instant message. That only
changed when "we started to hear about the number of injuries."
Washington, D.C. – The nationwide press watchdog group Accuracy in Media (AIM), along with some of the country’s top retired military officers, intelligence agents, and national security experts, have launched a new project aimed at resolving unanswered questions about last year’s attack on the American Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi.
Current members of the group, Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi, include the following:
Roger Aronoff, Editor, Accuracy in Media
Capt. Larry Bailey,(SEAL),USN (Ret)
Lt. Col. Ken Benway, USA (Ret)
Col. Dick Brauer Jr., USAF (Ret)
Col. Dennis Haney, USAF (Ret)
Brig. Gen. Charles Jones, USAF (Ret)
Clare Lopez, former CIA Operations Officer
Adm. James “Ace” Lyons, USN (Ret)
Gen. Thomas McInerney, USAF (Ret)
Col. Wayne Morris, USMC (Ret)
Wayne Simmons, former CIA Officer
Maj. Gen. Paul E. Vallely, US Army (Ret)
Lt. Col. Allen West, US Army (Ret)
“I am humbled and honored that these distinguished military and national security heroes have decided to join with AIM to set the record straight,” said Roger Aronoff, the Editor of AIM.
The Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi will officially launch its operations by holding a conference on Monday, September 16th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Heritage Foundation’s Allison Auditorium in Washington, D.C. The public and the press are invited to attend the first session, which includes lunch, from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm, while the second session will be an off-the-record event, held behind closed doors from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
“I regard this conference as the launch pad for our fact-finding mission where truth will finally begin to replace the tired misinformation peddled by the administration and the media for nearly a year, which has seriously compromised the truth about Benghazi,” said Aronoff, adding that the typical Washington sideshow of rewarding failure has also been on display more than once during the year.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper got it right on Syria. No military action on our part, he announced Thursday.
Although if our allies feel like unilateral action is the right
course for them, we're not going to stand in their way. We'll offer
moral support.
After all, we're opposed to the chemical weapons attacks. On Friday
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said these attacks killed 1,429
Syrians.
Both the United States and France are poised to act. If they feel
comfortable with the information at hand and are willing to commit their
citizen's resources, so be it.
But we'll sit this one out. Admittedly we are in a convenient
position. The attack reportedly being considered would use drones and
cruise missiles. We have neither.
In this space on Thursday we argued that a "surgical" response was required -- a targeted attack that used minimal resources.
It also needed to be of the proportion that ruled out prolonged
follow-up action. We don't want another Iraq or Afghanistan on our
hands.
This seems to be what is going to happen. Good.
We're not concerned that unilateral action from the United States
doesn't have the support of the United Nations Security Council. Russia,
which has veto power on the council, has long been supportive of the
Assad regime.

In a short speech just a few moments ago Obama announced he will seek
congressional authority on attacking Syria even though he believes he
has the authority to go ahead with strike. But Charles Krauthammer said
that it was astonishing the lack of urgency he displayed, suggesting he
could carry out this attack in the next week or the next month. “This is
amateur hour,” Krauthammer said, and if you were sitting in Syria,
Iraq, or Moscow watching this speech, then it looked like Obama was
looking for a way out of striking Syria after he had boxed himself in.
In early 2012, Muslim Brotherhood presidential candidate Mohammed Morsi pranced around Egypt proclaiming “Jihad is our path,” and thought there was nothing better than to die in the cause of Allah—that is, the exact language used by terrorists!
Despite this, Barack Obama gushed on national television after Morsi was elected President of Egypt. And oddly—or not so oddly—Obama continued to gush over Morsi while reports surfaced that the Muslim Brotherhood were setting up torture chambers for their political enemies, not to mention openly crucifying Christians!
When Morsi was deposed, the Egyptian military discovered a treasure trove of documents linking the Obama regime with the illegal activities of the Muslim Brotherhood.
One such document is a list of Muslim Brotherhood officials receiving secret bribes in U.S. currency, paid out by the U.S. consulate, amounting to millions of dollars.
Investigative journalist Jerome Corsi has obtained a copy of the document held by the Egyptian military, proving the Obama regime sent millions of dollars in bribes to the Muslim Brotherhood.
But who was managing all of this money? Did the Muslim Brotherhood walk around with hundreds of thousands of dollars in their pockets?
Enter Malik Obama, Obama’s half brother. According to Egyptian television, citing the Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt:
The President’s brother…is one of the architects of the major investments of the Muslim Brotherhood.
We’re not just talking about the bribes the Muslim Brotherhood received in Egypt, but the entire Muslim Brotherhood finances—worldwide—that more than likely included an astounding $8 billion dollar bribe to the Muslim Brotherhood made by the Obama regime. The bribe was payment to guarantee that the huge tract of Egyptian land, the Sinai Peninsula, be turned over to the Muslim Brotherhood sister group Hamas, undoubtably to put Israel in an indefensible position. The Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas mince no words about their goals for Israel: total annihilation. According to Egypt Daily News, a document exists showing the eight billion dollar “holocaust” agreement with the Obama administration that was signed by former Muslim Brotherhood President Mohammed Morsi
and his second in command Khairat Al-Shater, both under arrest by the
Egyptian military for murder and treason.
Does this document really exist, showing the $8 billion dollar bribe signed by Obama or one of his representatives?
Undoubtably.
According to Khairat Al-Shater’s son, Saad Al-Shater, prior to being
arrested by the Egyptian military, his father was in possession of
information linking Obama with the Muslim Brotherhood that he says would put Obama in prison.
