Attorney for Whistleblower: 400 U.S. Missiles Stolen in Benghazi

On August 12, Joe DiGenova, attorney for one of the Benghazi whistleblowers, told Washington D.C.'s WMAL that one of the reasons people have remained tight-lipped about Benghazi is because 400 U.S. missiles were "diverted to Libya" and ended up being stolen and falling into "the hands of some very ugly people."

DiGenova represents Benghazi whistleblower Mark Thompson. He told WMAL that he "does not know whether [the missiles] were at the annex, but it is clear the annex was somehow involved in the distribution of those missiles."
He claimed his information "comes from a former intelligence official who stayed in constant contact with people in the special ops and intelligence community." He said the biggest concern right now is finding those missiles before they can be put to use. "They are worried, specifically according to these sources, about an attempt to shoot down an airliner," he claimed.
On August 4, Breitbart News covered a report in The Telegraph that said 35 CIA operatives were working in Benghazi when the attack against the consulate took place. The Telegraph claimed these operatives were allegedly in an "annex near the consulate [working] on a project to supply missiles from Libyan armories to Syrian Rebels."
Months earlier, following then-Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta's February 7 testimony on Capitol Hill about the Benghazi attacks, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) suggested that one of the causes behind the terrorist attack "may have been that there was a gun running operation going on in Benghazi, leaving Libya and going to Turkey and [distributing] arms to the [Syrian] rebels."

The Justice Department made a long-overdue disclosure late Friday: Last year when U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder boasted about the successes that a high-profile task force racked up pursuing mortgage fraud, the numbers he trumpeted were grossly overstated.

We’re not talking small differences here. Originally the Justice Department said 530 people were charged criminally as part of a year-long initiative by the multi-agency Mortgage Fraud Working Group. It now says the actual figure was 107 — or 80 percent less. Holder originally said the defendants had victimized more than 73,000 American homeowners. That number was revised to 17,185, while estimates of homeowner losses associated with the frauds dropped to $95 million from $1 billion.

Report: Syrian rebels receive arms shipments from Sudan 

NYT reports Sudan, despite embargoes, supplies weapon to Syrian rebels. Russia, UN push back peace talks between Assad regime, rebels

Sudan’s government sold Sudanese- and Chinese-made arms to Qatar, which arranged delivery through Turkey to Syrian rebels, the New York Times reported Tuesday, based on accounts by both Western officials and Syrian rebels.

According to the Times, the deals, which included shipment of antiaircraft missiles and newly manufactured small-arms cartridges, have not been publicly acknowledged.
Reportedly, the equipment is paid for mainly by Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and others.

Sudanese officials have denied in the past to have been helping arm either side in the Syrian war. “Sudan has not sent weapons to Syria,” said Imad Sid Ahmad, the press secretary for President Omar Hassan al-Bashir.

Al-Sawarmi Khalid Saad, a spokesman for the Sudanese armed forces, added: “We have no interest in supporting groups in Syria, especially if the outcome of the fighting is not clear. These allegations are meant to harm our relations with countries Sudan has good relations with.”

Al Qaeda-Trained Terrorists in New Zealand, Prime Minister Says

Earlier this month, as the United States rushed to shutter embassies in response to a terrorist threat, New Zealand's prime minister made a remarkable but largely overlooked assertion. According to John Key, there are al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula-trained individuals at large in his country.
"In New Zealand there are people who've been trained for al-Qaeda camps who operate out of New Zealand, who are in contact with people overseas, who have gone off to Yemen and other countries to train," he told a radio program in New Zealand on Aug. 1. "Some are still offshore and some are in New Zealand."
Key told the radio program that he had signed off on surveillance of al Qaeda-trained individuals in New Zealand, but could not legally arrest them. "It does not necessarily mean that they have broken the law at this point," Key said. 
The prime minister's comments come amid New Zealand's own domestic surveillance controversy: Key has been championing proposed legislation that would allow the country's Government Communications Security Bureau to cooperate with New Zealand's domestic intelligence agencies on investigations, which could include domestic surveillance. Political opponents criticized Key's comments about al Qaeda as a scare tactic and terrorism experts contacted by New Zealand's media downplayed the potential threat, pointing out that the country is an unlikely al Qaeda target.
But perhaps the most striking thing about Key's comments is the contention that attending an AQAP training camp isn't necessarily illegal under New Zealand's current laws. No one has ever been charged with terrorism under New Zealand's anti-terrorism law -- the Terrorism Suppression Act (TSA), passed in 2002. New Zealand's solicitor-general called the law "unnecessarily complex" and even "incoherent" in 2007. A cable from the U.S. embassy in Wellington, released by WikiLeaks, cites the solicitor-general's report, complaining that "In the post-9/11 world, one would expect that New Zealand would have an adequate law to deal with foreign as well as domestic terrorism -- it does not. Critics of the TSA say that it was never envisaged to apply to domestic terrorism, but one wonders if it would have applied to foreign terrorists plotting much the same activities [as the Maori dissident group Rama] ... leaked by the press."

The Denver Post, on February 15^th, ran an Associated Press article entitled Homeland Security aims to buy 1.6b rounds of ammo, so far to little notice.  It confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition.  As reported elsewhere, some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. Also reported elsewhere, at the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month.  Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20+ years.  In America.

Obama to sign U.N. gun treaty while Congress on vacation

President Obama is at it again.

According to a post at Ammoland, Obama is set to sign a U.N. gun control treaty before the end of August, while Congress is on vacation.

It’s no secret Obama wants to shred the Second Amendment, and if he can do it under the auspices of a global treaty, he will.
Of course, the Senate has to ratify the treaty before it becomes binding, but you know the anti-gun crowd will be out in full force using every dirty trick they can think of to pressure Senators, including the tragic shooting of Trayvon Martin.
Forbes observed that this treaty, if ratified would — among other things — create an international gun registry, clearly setting the stage for full-scale gun confiscation, and ban the trade, sale and private ownership of all semi-automatic weapons.
“Our Senate took a stance before the Presidential election when 51 of them wrote Obama a letter saying they would not support an Arms Trade Treaty. We must let our entire U.S. Senate know we do not support international gun control. They must not ratify this international treaty,” wrote Alan M. Gottlieb, Chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

CIA Director Brennan Confirmed as Reporter Michael Hastings Next Target

This week Elise Jordan, wife of famed journalist Michael Hastings, who recently died under suspicious circumstances, corroborated this reporter's sources that CIA Director, John Brennan was Hastings next exposé project (CNN clip). 
Last month a source provided San Diego 6 News with an alarming email hacked from super secret CIA contractor Stratfor’s President Fred Burton. The email (link here) was posted on WikiLeaks and alleged that then Obama counter-terrorism Czar Brennan, was in charge of the government's continued crackdown or witch-hunt on investigative journalists. 
After providing the Stratfor email to the CIA for comment, the spymaster's spokesperson responded in lightning speed. Two emails were received; one acknowledging Hastings was working on a CIA story and the other said, “Without commenting on information disseminated by WikiLeaks, any suggestion that Director Brennan has ever attempted to infringe on constitutionally-protected press freedoms is offensive and baseless.”  
The emails also prompted a phone from CIA media spokesman Todd Ebitz. He said they were saddened by Michael’s death and reiterated their position that they had a cordial working relationship with the investigative reporter. 
On the other hand, Stratfor, specifically Fred Burton, remains nonresponsive. 
As for Hastings’ final story, his wife said Rolling Stone would publish the Brennan piece in an upcoming edition of the magazine.
