Obama’s potential release of $12bn of frozen Iranian assets would be followed by $35 billion from Europe

Tehran stands to gain access to nearly $50 billion if the Obama administration decides to free up $12 billion of frozen Iranian assets in the US, inevitably followed by Europe’s release of another $35 billion. The White House was reported Friday, Oct. 18 to be weighing a proposal to offer Iran access to these funds “in installments” against "steps to cut down on its nuclear program." debkafile’s intelligence sources: This plan offers Barack Obama a way to ease sanctions on Iran, while avoiding political and diplomatic fallout in Congress and from Jerusalem that would result from an attempt to get the sanctions legislation repealed or amended.
US lawmakers and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu continue to call for harsher measures against Iran, after the Geneva conference last week failed to achieve any breakthrough in the controversy on Iran’s nuclear program.
Although its delegation avoided any pledge to suspend uranium enrichment and offered no plan to dismantle its enrichment facilities, US officials complimented the Iranian position as “more candid and substantive” than in previous diplomatic encounters.
Indeed, according to our sources, the Iranian delegation advised the six world powers on the opposite side of the table to simply accept Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s fatwa as an ironclad pledge of the Islamic Republic’s commitment to refrain from developing a nuclear weapon and continue to pursue a peaceful program.
As for a substantial proposal to cut back on their nuclear operations, the Iranian negotiators said firmly: Sanctions relief first; concessions only at the end of the road.
Ahead of the next round of talks on Nov. 7-8, the Obama administration hopes to warm world opinion to the proposition that Iran’s leaders, especially President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif and his deputy Abbas Araghchi, need more incentives for concessions. They must be able to show their doctrinaire colleagues at home that diplomacy and smiles win more than intransigence.
Even before the Geneva conference, the White House was already putting in place the plan for relieving sanctions by the release of frozen funds - which is why the US delegation included for the first time the Director of the OFAC (the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control), Adam Szubin.
Asked by CNN what Szubin was doing there, senior US negotiator Undersecretary Wendy Sherman said:

Russian weapons coming to Brazil instead of American ones

The Russian military delegation headed by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu flew to Brazil. The visit to sunny Brazil is based on the subject of arms supplies. The Russian minister also plans to visit Peru to discuss and sign contracts for the supply of arms in the total amount of about $1,7 billion. In general, Russia is strengthening its position on the arms market in Latin America.

In Brazil, Russian and Brazilian officials will sign the previously discussed contracts for the supply of Panzir-S1 air defense systems and individual complexes 9K38 Igla worth more than a billion dollars. Shoigu will have a meeting with Brazilian Defense Minister Celso Amorim, Chief of Staff José Carlos de Nardi and possibly President Dilma Rousseff. During the visit, Rosoboronexport intends to offer Brazil to buy Russian fighter jets Su-35, including the possible transfer of technology for their production. The Russian minister will also discuss collaboration on the development of fifth-generation fighter aircraft PAK FA T-50.

How Turkey shopped Mossad spies to Iran: A story leaked by Washington to caution Netanyahu

Early last year, the Erdogan government blew the cover of up to 10 Israel agents in Iran who had been meeting inside Turkey with their Mossad case officers. This story was published in The Washington Post, by David Ignatius, who has excellent connections in the US capital, Thursday, Oct. 17 – the day after a two-day conference in Geneva between six world powers with Iran on its nuclear program. A chorus of Western powers led by the US hailed the event as “substantive” and “forward-looking.”
But on the quiet, the WP story was directed against Israel’s Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu as a caution to him to drop his “lone voice” posture against trusting Iran to abandon its nuclear weapon aspirations. Instead, he must look forward and start getting used to the “new Middle East" and role Barack Obama has assigned for Iran. If he persists in his defiant attitude, Israeli intelligence may face more debacles like the Turkish betrayal.
The WP story reveals from “knowledgeable sources” that Israeli intelligence had apparently run part of its Iranian spy network through Turkey, which has relatively easy movement back and forth across its border with Iran. “The Turkish intelligence service MIT had the resources to monitor those meetings, but after 50 years of cooperation with Turkey, Israel never imagined the Turks would “shop” Israeli agents to a hostile power.
Ignatius reports:  “US officials assessed the incident as a problem of misplaced trust, rather than bad tradecraft.”
Still, the article presents Israel’s Mossad in an unflattering light, claiming that Israeli intelligence officers in 2010  complained to the CIA that Hakan Fidan Turkish intelligence chief was in fact “the MOIS station chief in Ankara.” MOIS is Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security.
He describes “Israeli anger at the deliberate compromise of its agents,” which he said may help explain why Netanyahu “became entrenched in his refusal to apologize to Erdogan about the May 2010 Gaza flotilla incident" in which nine Turks were killed. He did apologize later but the “severe strain with Erdogan continues.”

More Libyan fallout: Intel finds advanced U.S. weapons were ‘stolen, sold abroad’

WASHINGTON — The U.S. intelligence community has concluded that a huge amount of weapons from Libya was transferred to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaida-aligned militias.
Officials said the Brotherhood has acquired U.S. weapons and military equipment stolen from Libyan Army bases.
The officials said the equipment could include night-vision and even armored vehicles.
“All of the U.S. equipment brought in over the last few months has been stolen, and most of it was sold abroad,” an official said. “There is evidence that the Brotherhood has bought some of it.”
Officials said the Egyptian Defense Ministry has shared information with the U.S. Defense Department on American weapons captured in raids of Brotherhood and Al Qaida-aligned militias in the Sinai Peninsula and the African mainland. They said Egypt has found evidence that some of the insurgents were already using night-vision goggles for attacks on critical infrastructure, including the Suez Canal.
On Oct. 5, Egyptian authorities announced the arrest of a suspect in a rocket-propelled grenade attack on a state-owned satellite facility in
Cairo. The attack, attributed to the Brotherhood, was the first in which an RPG was fired in Cairo since the ouster of Egypt’s first Islamist president in July 2013.
The American equipment stolen from Libya was to have been used for
training by the U.S. Special Forces Command. In September, the U.S. network
Fox News reported that dozens of GMV armored vehicles, fitted with advanced
navigation systems and smoke-grenade launchers, went missing from Libya.

Obamacare woes widen as insurers get wrong data

Insurers say the federal health-care marketplace is generating flawed data that is straining their ability to handle even the trickle of enrollees who have gotten through so far, in a sign that technological problems extend further than the website traffic and software issues already identified.

Emerging errors include duplicate enrollments, spouses reported as children, missing data fields and suspect eligibility determinations, say executives at more than a dozen health plans. Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Nebraska said it had to hire temporary workers to contact new customers directly to resolve inaccuracies in submissions. Medical Mutual of Ohio said one customer had successfully signed up for three of its plans.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took a jab at Vice President Joseph R. Biden on Tuesday, saying he didn’t want the bin Laden raid to go forth — and making, in the meanwhile, what some political watchers have perceived as an offensive maneuver to stake out her 2016 claim to the White House.
Mrs. Clinton said at an Atlanta conference that she was strongly in support of the Navy SEAL mission, while Mr. Biden was much more cautious, The Daily Mail reported. Audience members picked up on the political jab, saying it appeared as if she were staking out her White House claim now.

Bombshell: Obamacare Website Company Was Fired by Canadian Government for Poor Performance

Oh well. It only cost $634 million.
The Canadian government fired the parent company of CGI Federal, the prime contractor for the problem-plagued Obamacare health exchange websites, last year for poor performance.
So it only makes sense that the Obama Administration would be working with them.
Heck, it’s not their money.

Wade Rathke The Founder Of ACORN New Group Acting As Obamacare Navigators

A community organization established by Wade Rathke, founder of ACORN, will be participating in a “navigator” drive aiding people attempting to sign up for health-care coverage under the Affordable Care Act, according to a Fox News report. The organization, United Labor Unions Council Local 100, is based in New Orleans and was created by Rathke after ACORN went bankrupt amidst widespread scandal.

Dan Epstein, executive director of Cause of Action, a non-partisan watchdog group, said, “At a time when our government has ceased functioning due to an appropriations gap, it is ironic that America’s tax dollars are being doled out to an entity whose poor stewardship of our funds was well-established by Congress.” Congress voted to defund ACORN in 2009 after secret videos revealed ACORN employees coaching people on how to conduct illegal activities.

Obamacare levies fines on non-profit hospitals that offer free healthcare to the poor 

It’s one of the lesser-known provisions in the so-called “Affordable” Care Act, but it’s having a major impact on charitable hospitals.  Obamacare actually fines hospitals that provide free health services to the poor.

Charitable hospitals that treat uninsured Americans will be subjected to new levels of scrutiny of their nonprofit status and could face sizable new fines under Obamacare.
A new provision in Section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code, which takes effect under Obamacare, sets new standards of review and installs new financial penalties for tax-exempt charitable hospitals, which devote a minimum amount of their expenses to treat uninsured poor people. Approximately 60 percent of American hospitals are currently nonprofit.
Charity for the uninsured is one of the factors that could discourage enrollment in Obamacare, which requires all Americans to purchase health insurance or else face new taxes themselves from the IRS.
“It requires tax-exempt hospitals to do a community needs survey and file additional paperwork with the IRS every three years. This is to prove that the charitable hospital is still needed in their geographical area — ‘needed’ as defined by Obamacare and overseen by IRS bureaucrats,” said John Kartch, spokesman for Americans for Tax Reform.

Obama adviser ‘architect’ of showdown: author

President Obama’s top adviser Valerie Jarrett was behind a plan to force a showdown with Republicans over ObamaCare as part of a strategy to regain Democratic control of the House next year, claims author Ed Klein.
Klein — who wrote a provocative biography about Obama last year entitled “The Amateur” — said White House insiders refer to Jarrett as “The Night Stalker” because she is the only presidential aide who frequently spends time in the family quarters and dines with the Obamas.
Klein, who is conducting a research for a new Obama tome scheduled for next spring, called Jarrett the “architect” of Obama’s take-no- prisoners approach when it comes to his signature domestic policy initiative.
It was Jarrett who advised Obama that voters would mostly blame Republicans if the federal government ground to a halt, providing a golden opportunity to swing back control of the House to Democrats in the 2014 mid-term elections, according to Klein.
A Democratic House would give Obama an opportunity to pass immigration and other legislation blocked by the current Republican majority.
“It was during one of those nightly sessions that Jarrett devised the no-negotiating strategy that Obama has employed in his fight with the GOP over the government shutdown,” Klein said, citing sources within the administration.

Schwarzenegger lobbies for law banning foreigners from becoming president to be scrapped so he can run for office

Action star Arnold Schwarzenegger is lobbying for support to change the law to allow him to join the race for the White House in 2016.
The former governor of California, who was born in Austria, is said to be ready to file the paperwork needed to challenge the rules, which prevents a foreign-born citizen from holding the nation's top job.
However, any amendment to the Constitution must be approved by a two-thirds majority in the House and the Senate.
A source told Page Six the Terminator star has been talking openly about his political ambitions while he is in New York to promote his new film with Sylvester Stallone, Escape Plan.
The source said: 'Schwarzenegger has been talking openly about working on getting the constitutional rules changed so he can run for president in 2016.
'He is ready to file legal paperwork to challenge the rules.'
The 66-year-old, who became a US citizen in 1983, has previously declared interest in running for President, were the rules to be changed.

After years of covering the news beat in DC, the press corps has now become experts at (wait for it…) diagnosing mental illness. Wednesday night during the Congressional vote that ended the government shutdown, 8-year veteran staffer, Dianne Reidy, climbed up the House podium steps and went on a conspiratorial tirade:

Reidy was seized and removed bodily from the speaker’s platform.  From there Reidy was taken down to the Congressional basement, interviewed by Capitol police then sent straight away to a DC hospital for mental health evaluation.

Egyptian media portrays Barack Obama as Satan, U.S. media silent

It's probably safe to say that Egyptian media won't be portraying Barack Obama as "god of all things" anytime soon. An Egyptian media source has actually taken the opposite position, portraying the president as the devil himself, PJ Media reported Wednesday.
Raymond Ibrahim, author of "Crucified Again: Exposing Islam’s New War on Christians," said the Egyptian paper Al Wafd published a grotesque picture portraying Obama as Satan, and said it represents the growing hatred many people in the region have for the president, thanks, he said, to Obama's staunch and unwavering support for Islamists and jihadis, "whether in Nigeria, Libya, Egypt, or Syria — even as they terrorize, murder, rape, and burn down Christian churches, that is, even as they engage in diabolical activities."
A blog post at the Gateway Pundit wondered if the media -- including Fox News' Bill O'Reilly -- would denounce the image as racist, reminding readers of the controversy sparked by a series on the History Channel where a character portraying the devil had an uncanny resemblance to Obama.
A post at Atlas Shrugged says that while the world "respected the forceful and decisive Bush," they "scorn and disrespect the weak and feckless Obama, and therefore us."

Obama Admin. Working To Make Anti-Muslim Speech Illegal & Punishable

Bill Killian, a US attorney, claims that anti-Muslim speech violates Muslim’s Constitutional rights. Therefore, he argues, it should be illegal and punishable by law.
Killian said, “We need to educate people about Muslims and their civil rights, and as long as we’re here, they’re going to be protected.”
At this time, Obama’s DOJ is working to determine what, exactly, is considered illegal speech against Muslims. Guidelines and specific laws are expected to come soon.
Currently, the government is not allowed to prevent speech that is hateful towards a religion, unless a specific threat is made. To prevent speech that is hostile towards a religion is a violation of the First Amendment. The government is allowed to urge people to not engage in such speech — it just cannot punish people for doing so.
If the DOJ does decide to make anti-Muslim speech punishable by law, it could mark the beginning of significantly increased government power.
