Countdown to an Iranian Bomb
This morning, we reported on a push by the White House to stop Members of Congress from increasing sanctions on Iran. John Podhoretz, writing in Commentary, notes (and links to) and article in USA Today that reports that Iran’s nuclear program is significantly larger and more advanced than previously reported:The story has to be seen as part of the struggle in Washington between senators who want to stiffen sanctions against Iran and the Obama administration, which is so intent on its outreach to the mullah regime that it stands opposed to toughening the sanctions regime until after new negotiations begin next month. Remember that the president has said on numerous occasions that Iran cannot be allowed to get the bomb.
Cheney Goes After Hillary, Obama for Foreign Policy ‘Incompetence’ on Hugh Hewitt Show
Former vice president Dick Cheney joined conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Thursday and took the opportunity to go after President Obama and Hillary Clinton for the foreign policy “incompetence” of the Obama administration.
Cheney called Benghazi an unquestionable tragedy, saying more should have been done to protect the four Americans who died. He slammed Clinton for “doing everything she can to avoid responsibility” for what happened under her leadership. He also thought the “victory dance,” as Hewitt put it, after taking out Osama bin Laden was too much. He said, “Don’t go out and broadcast the fact that you’ve got the guy.”
Cheney also weighed in on the “huge threat” of Iran building nuclear weapons, and said the recent crisis over Syria displayed the “incompetence of the administration” on these issues.

Benghazi witness: Terrorists told guards ‘We’re here to kill Americans’
For the first time, Americans will hear from a British man hired to train Libyan guards for the U.S. Mission in Benghazi who received a call from one of his men during the terrorist attack on Sept. 11.CBS has released a segment of the upcoming interview from this Sunday’s “60 Minutes,” in which a man using the name “Morgan Jones, a pseudonym to protect his safety,” discussed his frustration that the U.S. State Department would not allow Libyan guards to carry weapons.
Jones’ account of the call he received from his guard during the attack that ultimately killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, is chilling: The terrorists told the guards “We’re here to kill Americans, not Libyans,” he said, so the Libyan guards were beaten, but then released.
According to the CBS report:
“I could hear gunshots, and I — and he said, ‘There’s — there’s men coming into the mission,’” Jones said. “His voice, he was — he was scared. You could tell he was really scared, and he was running. You could tell he was running.”
Morgan’s guards, unarmed and terrified, were surrounded by heavily armed gunmen, but they still sounded the alarm.
“They said, ‘We’re here to kill Americans, not Libyans,’ so they’d give them a good beating, pistol whip them, beat them with their rifles and let them go,” Jones said.
Contractor admits selling defective parts to Pentagon
A business owner who contracted with the Pentagon has pleaded guilty to charges he sold the military defective parts that grounded planes, and then sent sensitive information to India. In a release Thursday, federal prosecutors said Robert Luba, 47, the owner of Allied Components LLC of New Jersey, sold the government defective Indian-made “wing-pins” that eventually grounded 47 Air Force F-15 fighters while military officials inspected and repaired the aircraft.
Then he sent information on a component of a nuclear-powered submarine to an associate in India, officials said.
“The conduct admitted by Luba shows a callous disregard for the safety of our armed forces,” said U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman. “By recklessly providing sub-standard parts for sophisticated weapons systems and sharing sensitive information with a foreign state, Luba not only jeopardized the lives of men and women on the front lines of our national defense, he put all Americans at risk, all in the name of making a buck.”
Luba was supposed to supply the Defense Department with American-made parts, but instead imported parts made in India, court documents show. At one point, he also submitted false documentation saying the parts were made in the U.S.
Sebelius says she does not work for those calling for her resignation
PHOENIX - Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Thursday that officials are working "24-7" to improve the government's health insurance website after its clunky rollout.
Sebelius, the Obama administration's public point person on implementation of the new health care law, was in Phoenix amid calls for her resignation over the technical issues that have prevented people from signing up for coverage online."The majority of people calling for me to resign I would say are people who I don't work for and do not want this program to work in the first place," Sebelius said during a visit to the Wesley Health Center. "I have had frequent conversations with the president and I've admitted to him that my role is to get the program up and running and we will do just that."
