16 major retail chains closing stores across America

Daniel Jennings writes for Wealthy Debates, April 4, 2014, that despite all the talk from the Obama administration and the MSM about a “recovering” economy, a retail tsunami shows the U.S. economy to be in trouble.

Recent news stories show that American retail is in dire straits. Here are 16 big retail companies that have closed or will close stores soon:

1. Office supply company Staples has announced plans to close 225 stores by 2015, which is about 15% of its chain. Staples already closed 40 stores last year.
2. Office Depot, Staples’ main competitor which bought Office Max last year, isn’t in good shape either. Industry analysts expect Office Depot to announce its own round of store closings soon.
3. Radio Shack has announced plans to close 20% of its stores or as many as 1,100 stores this year. The company, which operates around 4,000 stores, reported that its sales fell by 19% last year.
4. Albertsons supermarket closed 26 stores in January and February this year. Analysts expect many more Albertsons to be closed down because Albertsons’ owner hedge fund Cerberus Capital Management just bought Safeway Inc. Some Safeway stores could soon shut down as well.
5. Clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch is planning to close 220 stores by the end of 2015. The company is also planning to shut down the Gilly Hicks chain, which has 20 stores.
6. Barnes & Nobles is planning to shut down one third of its stores or about 218 stores in the next year. The chain has already closed its iconic flagship store in New York City.
7. J.C. Penney is closing about 33 stores and laying off about 2,000 employees.
8. Toys R Us has plans to close 100 stores.
9. The Sweetbay Supermarket chain will close all 17 of the stores it operates in the Tampa Bay area. Many of the stores might open as Winn-Dixie Stores. Sweetbay closed 33 stores in Florida last year.
10. The entire Loehmann’s chain of discount clothing stores in the New York City area shut down. Loehmann’s once operated 39 stores and was considered an institution by generations of New Yorkers.
11. Sears Holdings, which owns both Sears and Kmart, is expected to close another 500 stores this year. Sears has already shut down its flagship store in Chicago.
12. Quiznos has filed for bankruptcy and could close many of its 2,100 stores.
13. Sbarro, which operates pizza and Italian restaurants in malls, is planning to close 155 locations (or 20% of its restaurants) in North America (U.S. and Canada). The chain operates around 800 outlets.
14. Ruby Tuesday announced plans to close 30 restaurants in January after its sales fell by 7.8%. The chain currently operates around 775 steakhouses across the US.
15. An unknown number of Red Lobster stores will be sold. The chain is in such bad shape that the parent company, Darden Restaurants Inc., had to issue a press release stating that the chain would not close. Instead Darden is planning to spin Red Lobster off into another company and sell some of its stores.
16. Ralph’s, a subsidiary of Kroger, has announced plans to close 15 supermarkets in Southern California within 60 days.
17. Safeway closed 72 Dominick’s grocery stores in the Chicago area last year.

All those store closures mean more Americans will be unemployed, which translates into less tax revenue and more dependency on government welfare.

Here Are a Few of the Dire Consequences Obama Says Will Happen If Republicans Get Their Way With the Budget

President Barack Obama warned in his weekly address Saturday of the consequences he says will become a reality if congressional Republicans are successful in passing their budget.
“[T]heir budget forces deep cuts to investments that help our economy create jobs, like education and scientific research,” Obama said.
“Now, they won’t tell you where these cuts will fall. But compared to my budget, if they cut everything evenly, then within a few years, about 170,000 kids will be cut from early education programs,” the president continued. “About 200,000 new mothers and kids will be cut off from programs to help them get healthy food. Schools across the country will lose funding that supports 21,000 special education teachers. And if they want to make smaller cuts to one of these areas, that means larger cuts in others.”
Obama also noted in his weekly address that the GOP budget also tries to repeal his signature healthcare law, while increasing wealth disparity.
“Policies that benefit a fortunate few while making it harder for working Americans to succeed are not what we need right now,” Obama said.
In a press conference earlier this week, however, Republican House Speaker John Boehner contended that the president’s policies are the ones to blame.
“You know, the president likes to focus on income inequality,” he said. “But, incomes are lower under his watch. In matter of fact, I would argue that his policies are driving a lot of income inequalities that we see today.”

Obama Budget Supersizes U.S. Funding for UN, Global Military

At a time of soaring U.S. budget deficits, brutal economic hardship for tens of millions of Americans, and unprecedented levels of federal spending, the Obama administration is asking Congress to drastically increase U.S. funding for the scandal-plagued United Nations and its oftentimes ruthless so-called international “peacekeeping” troops. However, rather than rewarding the widely criticized “dictators’ club” with more borrowed or confiscated funds, critics say U.S. lawmakers should cut off all funding to the UN — and eventually withdraw from the sovereignty-subverting outfit altogether.
In its fiscal year 2015 budget request, which seeks almost $4 trillion in spending overall, the Obama administration is asking Congress to approve a massive 33-percent hike in U.S. taxpayer handouts to the UN and other international organizations. In addition, the White House is pushing “contributions” to so-called global “peacekeeping” schemes that are a full 43 percent larger than last year, sparking outrage from critics.
Most of the proposed increase in UN military funding, the administration says, will go to deploying even more UN troops to prop up the dubious regimes ruling war-torn African nations such as Mali, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and more. The self-styled global military already has about 100,000 UN troops and “police” deployed across 15 “missions,” along with more than 15,000 civilians. Apparently, though, the UN and Obama want more.

What is even more astonishing is the fact that the FBI knew he was in fact living in the foothills of the Andes.

Hillary Clinton was scheduled to be the keynote speaker for the Western Healthcare Leadership Academy conference being held next week in San Diego. Those plans have changed and she’s now going to be appearing by video on a big screen. She’s saying it’s because she has such a busy schedule. We all know how hectic retirement can be. But protestors insist it’s because they’ve made it clear she’s not welcome there.

A wonderful group lead by Jan Iverson called “The Difference Matters” organized a protest when they learned of Hillary’s scheduled appearance and refused to change their plans. Pat Smith, mother of Sean Smith who lost his life in Benghazi, is going to be at the center of the planned demonstration.

Will this become a pattern?

Everyday Americans, standing up and refusing to be silenced, refusing to back down. I hope this is a movement that continues to grow and these protests appear at every Hillary Clinton event until she’s held accountable for what happened that night in Benghazi. 

Obama’s ‘Champion Of Change’ Amnesty Advocate Indicted for Immigration Fraud

An amnesty advocate that President Barack Obama’s White House publicly promoted as part of its “Champion of Change” series has been indicted in federal court on charges of fraud.
Apparently Bonnie M. Youn just couldn’t wait for “comprehensive immigration reform,” and she allegedly decided to bring in illegal immigrants on her own. Well, she was just following the lawless example of her own mentor, Barack.
Unfortunately, that’s still illegal in America:

Bonnie M. Youn, who Obama’s White House touts on its website as “a recognized Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) community leader in Georgia,” was indicted on three criminal charge counts in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia Atlanta Division on April 1, according to publicly filed court documents.
The first indictment count alleges Youn committed perjury with regard to an alien illegally in the United States. The second indictment count alleges that Youn violated a federal immigration law that prohibits bringing illegal aliens into the United States and harboring them, alleging she did so “for the purpose of commercial advantage and private financial gain.” The third indictment count alleges Youn illegally tampered with witness testimony, specifically alleging she influenced the illegal alien—whose identity is kept anonymous in the indictment—to provide false information about employment in the United States to federal agents.

Networks Refused To Give Obama Primetime Coverage Of Obamacare Propaganda Rally

Rather than succumb to pressure from this Administration for free primetime coverage of an ObamaCare propaganda rally, the three big networks declined, relegating the White House to daytime TV audiences.
This was President Obama’s big opportunity to buck up his supporters and try to woo the cynical rest to get behind the failed health care law with a phony announcement of 7 million enrollees.
But perhaps the three networks saw it as it was – pure partisan propaganda or perhaps it was their bottom line, but the network bailed on their leader en masse, instead choosing to make money with their usual lineup of primetime pap.

White House officials sought valuable primetime air for a rare, impromptu Tuesday night address to tout the accomplishment of signing up more than 7 million people under the Affordable Care Act.
But network officials refused to make the kind of accommodation they did previously for the announcement that Osama Bin Laden had been killed, for instance, and Obama was left instead cutting into the much smaller audiences of Ellen and other daytime shows.
Three sources familiar with the request confirmed the White House asked for the primetime slot in their effort both to emphasize a bright moment following the challenging roll out and, more important, to try to reintroduce the country to a law that remains unpopular. One top White House official referred BuzzFeed to another top official for comment on the conversation with networks, but the second official did not respond to a request for comment.

Whatever the reason, it’s delightful watching the sycophants jump ship too.

The alert was just the latest example of the federal government's continued struggle with oversight over its outside contractors.
The lack of oversight "exposes the department to significant financial risk," the auditor said. "It creates conditions conducive to fraud, as corrupt individuals may attempt to conceal evidence of illicit behavior by omitting key documents from the contract file. It impairs the ability of the department to take effective and timely action to protect its interests, and, in tum, those of taxpayers." 

USS Coronado commissioned Saturday

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The vice chief of naval operations will be the keynote speaker at Saturday's commissioning of the USS Coronado at Naval Air Station North Island, the Navy announced Thursday.
Adm. Mark Ferguson will deliver the principal address as the 417-foot littoral combat ship is put into active service. The U.S. Naval Academy graduate served as the commanding officer of the guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold, which is currently based in San Diego. He was also previously a special assistant to the supreme allied commander in Europe and chief of naval personnel.
Longtime Coronado resident Susan Ring Keith will serve as the ship's sponsor, with the task of giving the first order to "man our ship and bring her to life!" She's the daughter of Eleanor Ring, who was the sponsor of the previous USS Coronado.
"The commissioning of USS Coronado is a celebration of the history of the great city of Coronado and its lasting relationship with our Navy and Marine Corps," Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus said. "The sailors aboard LCS 4 will bring this mighty warship to life with their skill and dedication, honoring her namesake and our nation for years to come."
The new USS Coronado was designed to be a high-speed, shallow draft multi-mission vessel capable of operating independently or with an associated strike group. The Navy said the LCS was designed to fight in coastal waters.
A modular design allows an LCS to be outfitted for various types of missions, including surface, mine and anti-submarine warfare.
The first USS Coronado was a patrol frigate that escorted convoys during World War II. The other was an amphibious transport dock that was reconfigured into an auxiliary command ship.
The commissioning ceremony is set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and is open only to ticketed guests.

#OpIsrael: Anonymous calls for massive attack on Israeli cyberspace

Hacktivist group Anonymous plans to execute an anti-Israel operation dubbed #OpIsrael by launching massive cyber-attacks against Israeli ministries and organizations on April 7, the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day.
“On April 7, 2014, we call upon our brothers and sisters to hack, deface, hijack, database leak, admin takeover, and DNS terminate the Israeli Cyberspace by any means necessary” the group said in a statement.
 
The move is an act of protest against Israel's policies, including those against Palestine.

“The further assault on the people of Gaza, who have been flooded by your sewage, terrorized by your military apparatus, and left to die at the border while waiting for medical attention will NOT be tolerated anymore,” the statement read.

“We will not stop until the police state becomes a free state and Palestine is free.”
