Underground Stories 04-28-14

Hennady Kernes, Ukrainian Mayor, Shot And Wounded Amid Separatist Unrest

The mayor of Ukraine's second-largest city was shot in the back and pro-Russia insurgents seized more government buildings Monday as the U.S hit Russia with more sanctions for allegedly fomenting the unrest in eastern Ukraine.

One presidential candidate said the mayor was deliberately shot in an effort to destabilize the entire city of Kharkiv.

Armed insurgents tacitly backed by Moscow are seeking more autonomy in the region — possibly even independence or annexation with Russia. Ukraine's acting government and the West have accused Russia of orchestrating the unrest, which they fear Moscow could use as a pretext for an invasion.

Ratcheting up the pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Barack Obama's government levied new sanctions Monday on seven Russian officials and 17 companies with links to Putin's inner circle. The U.S. also revoked licenses for some high-tech items that could be used by the Russian military.

In Brussels, the European Union moved Monday to add 15 more officials to its Russian sanctions list to protest Moscow's meddling in Ukraine. That decision, reached by the ambassadors to the EU's 28 nations, was being formally confirmed by the EU's governments and was expected within hours, officials told The Associated Press.

Canada imposes more sanctions on Russia

Canada is imposing more sanctions on two Russian companies and nine individuals, following a move by the United States earlier today to step up economic pressure on Russia over the crisis in Ukraine.
The names of the companies and individuals will be announced shortly, a government source said Monday.
"Our government has been very clear that any further intimidation or actions to de-stabilize the Ukrainian government will result in consequences," Prime Minister Stephen Harper said in a statement Monday.

Canadian jets Europe-bound on Tuesday amid Ukraine tensions

Canadian fighter jets are leaving for Europe Tuesday morning to join NATO patrols as tensions rise over Russia’s efforts to destabilize neighbouring Ukraine, sources say.
The warplanes depart as Group of Seven countries including Canada announce they are imposing new sanctions on Russia because of Moscow’s attempts to foment rebellion in eastern Ukraine.
Six CF-18 Hornets are being deployed to Romania and the jets leaving from Canadian Forces Base Bagotville in Quebec.
The United States announced Monday it would freeze assets and impose visa bans on seven powerful Russians close to President Vladimir Putin, and introduced sanctions against 17 companies in reprisal for Moscow’s actions in Ukraine.
Canada announced that it would slap economic sanctions on nine Russians and two Russian banks. Travel bans are also being imposed on the nine individuals.

Report: Hillary Knew Benghazi Was a Terrorist Attack “Within Minutes”

A former State Diplomatic Security agent and an international expert on special operations and counterterrorism have come forward with more information about what happened after the Benghazi attack. Like usual, it doesn’t look good for Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State.

Fred Burton and Samuel Katz, the authors of “Under Fire, the Untold Story of the Attack on Benghazi” revealed that a security official who was under attack at Benghazi messaged the US embassy in Tripoly that it was a “terrorist attack”.
This essentially means that the first reports out of Benghazi told the State Department that this was a terrorist attack. The “YouTube story” that they made up was just that — made up. It was a lie. Hillary Clinton knew what was happening and lied for political reasons. Sickening.

London Underground Tube strike to begin later

A 48-hour Tube strike will start later after talks broke down between London Underground and the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union.
Workers will walk out at 21:00 BST, returning at 20:59 on Wednesday, in a row over plans to close ticket offices and cut 960 jobs.
It is thought disruption could begin before the official walk-out and continue until Thursday morning.
RMT and London Underground (LU) have left conciliatory service Acas.
The union and LU have met more than 40 times through Acas since the last 48-hour strike in February, but transport correspondent Tom Edwards said LU left the last ditch talks at about 11:25 BST.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, where services can be operated, trains will run from 07:00 BST or as soon as possible after that.
Services are expected to conclude at about 23:00 BST, with no service beyond that, but the last services from central London may depart much earlier, at about 21:30 BST.
Transport for London has issued a document of travel advice to customers.
It has said it plans to run as many services as possible with extra bus and river services, but customers are advised to check their journey before they travel.

Arrested for quoting Winston Churchill:

European election candidate accused of religious and racial harassment after he repeats wartime prime minister’s words on Islam during campaign speech

  • Chairman of Liberty GB was detained on suspicion of racial harrassment
  • He quoted a passage from Winston Churchill's 1899 book The River War
  • Paul Weston was arrested on the steps of Winchester's Guildhall
A candidate in the European elections was arrested on suspicion of racial harrassment after quoting a passage about Islam, written by Winston Churchill, during a campaign speech.
Paul Weston, chairman of the party Liberty GB, made the address on the steps of Winchester Guildhall, in Hampshire on Saturday.
A member of the public took offence at the quote, taken from Churchill's The River War and called police.

Cold War satellites find lost cities in Middle East

CORONA Atlas reveals 10,000 previously undiscovered sites in Iraq, Turkey and Syria

Images collected by Cold War spy satellites have revealed 10,000 unknown archaeological sites in the Middle East, showing thousands of ancient cities, roads, canals, and other undiscovered ruins.
The new CORONA Atlas shows previously undiscovered sites in Turkey, Iraq and Syria believed to date back to the Bronze Age. University of Arkansas archaeologist Jess Casana said “We can see all kinds of things- ancient roads and canals. The images provide a very comprehensive picture.”
The satellite that collected these images was used by the US during the Cold War to find Soviet Missile Bases and military camps from 1960-1972, reports National Geographic. The archive of 860,000 images was declassified in 1995 by President Bill Clinton.
The images of the Middle East has proved very useful to the CORONA Atlas archaeologists as they pre-date the rapid urban expansion of towns, the building of reservoirs and agricultural developments as well as the growth of cities such as Mosul in Iraq and Amman in Jordan. CLICK HERE FOR IMAGES

REBELLION: States Respond to Obama by Nullifying His Agenda

All across the country, the nullification movement is spreading like wildfire.  States are standing up and taking back their Tenth Amendment rights that have been continuously trampled upon by the federal government.
Nullification, in the strict sense, is a state’s challenging a federal law on constitutional grounds and declaring it null and void.  The Supreme Court has rejected this as being a valid doctrine, as federal courts, not state governments, have the final say on the constitutionality of a federal law.
There is, however, a “softer” version of nullification that can be and is being used to undermine federal laws, and it has constitutional precedent under several Supreme Court cases.

This involves what’s called the “anti-commandeering doctrine,” which states simply that Congress or the Executive cannot force a state to devote its resources to the implementation of a federal law.  In other words, the feds cannot “commandeer” state law enforcement officers towards the implementation of a federal regulatory scheme against the state’s wishes.
The Supreme Court established this doctrine under several cases: New York v. United States and Printz and Mack v. United States.  These cases established that the principles of federalism enshrined in the Constitution prevent the federal government from taking over state resources to implement federal laws.
This is an important safeguard for liberty, as otherwise the feds could tell state law enforcement officers what to do and how to do it, and this could quickly become tyrannical.  Think, for example, if the ATF could order your local county sheriff to disarm the citizenry.  Widespread tyranny would ensue if the feds had that authority.
“Soft nullification” involves simply the enforcement of a federal law.  Under the anti-commandeering doctrine, if a state passes a law that says that no officer of the state shall aid in the enforcement of Obamacare, for example, there is nothing the feds can do to force the state to do so.
Obviously, this has huge implications. The executive branch very often must rely on state law enforcement to help them enforce federal laws.  Often, state and federal law enforcement will work together to implement and enforce federal regulatory schemes.  Taking state resources out of that equation would severely undermine the feds’ enforcement efforts and may in many cases render the laws of Congress unenforceable.

Reid Reaped $1.1 Million from Sale of Land He Didn’t Own

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid collected a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn’t personally owned the property for three years, property deeds show.

In the process, Reid did not disclose to Congress an earlier sale in which he transferred his land to a company created by a friend and took a financial stake in that company, according to records and interviews.
The Nevada Democrat’s deal was engineered by Jay Brown, a longtime friend and former casino lawyer whose name surfaced in a major political bribery trial this summer and in other prior organized crime investigations. He’s never been charged with wrongdoing — except for a 1981 federal securities complaint that was settled out of court.
D’Souza’s new book on the role of America in the world is now available for pre-order, and the trailer for his upcoming film, America, was just released. Sign this petition to demand America in your city.

Texas Attorney General Tells Feds They’ll Have to Take Land by Force

In another attempt to steal land from American citizens, the Bureau of Land Management is considering taking 90,000 acres from Texas residents.
When Thomas Jefferson purchased the Louisiana Territory in 1803, it established the border between Texas and Louisiana to be the bans of the Red River.  Like many other rivers, periodically, the Red River will shift its course due to heavy rains and flooding.  As the river shifts, Texas and Louisiana dispute the location of their mutual border.
When the river shifts south, the Texas Farm Bureau recognizes that as the official state border.  When the river shifts back north, they insist that the border remain where it was.  The dispute over the land has been going on for nearly two hundred years.
To settle the dispute, the BLM is seriously considering confiscating the land for themselves and this has Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott ready to take up arms to protect Texas land.  Abbott commented about the issue, saying:
"I am about ready to go to the Red River and raise a 'Come and Take It' flag to tell the feds to stay out of Texas."
He has written a letter to Neil Kornze, Director of the BLM (who is also involved in the scandalous attempt to steal land from Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy).  The letter reads in part:
"I am deeply concerned about the notion that the Bureau of Land Management believes the federal government has the authority to swoop in and take land that has been owned and cultivated by Texas landowners for generations,"

Yet, the BLM has failed to disclose either its full intentions or the legal justification for its proposed actions. Decisions of this magnitude must not be made inside a bureaucratic black box."

Over 40,000 voters are registered in both Virginia and Maryland .. and they're not all Dead

A crosscheck of voter rolls in Virginia and Maryland turned up 44,000 people registered in both states, a vote-integrity group reported Wednesday.

And that’s just the beginning.

“The Virginia Voters Alliance is investigating how to identify voters who are registered and vote in Virginia but live in the states that surround us,” Alliance President Reagan George told the State Board of Elections.
George acknowledged that the number of voters who actually cast multiple ballots is relatively small. In the case of Maryland and Virginia, he revealed that 164 people voted in both states during the 2012 election.

But George said his group will expand their search for duplicate voters in the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia and Georgia.

What John Kerry Reportedly Said Behind Closed Doors Has Some Calling It ‘Disgusting’ and ‘Appalling’

Supporters of Israel are using words ranging from “not helpful” to “appalling” and “disgusting” in reaction to a Daily Beast report that Secretary of State John Kerry, in a closed-door meeting Friday, warned that Israel could become “an apartheid state” if it does not make peace with the Palestinians soon.
In a recording of his remarks obtained by the Daily Beast, Kerry also repeated a threat he has made previously that if the Israeli government does not seal a peace deal soon, there could be a resurgence of Palestinian violence against Israel.

The media is turning on President Obama

With multiple crises spiraling out of control around the world, stories about the Obama presidency are taking on the air of postmortems. What went wrong, who’s to blame, what next — even The New York Times is starting to recognize that Dear Leader is a global flop.
“Obama Suffers Setbacks in Japan and the Mideast,” the paper declared on Friday’s front page. The double whammy of failure pushed the growing Russian menace in Europe to inside pages, but even they were chock-full of reports about utopia gone wrong.
One story detailed how the White House was facing the “consequences of underestimating” North Korea’s Kim Jong-un. Others recounted the continuing Syrian slaughter and the murder of three Americans in Afghanistan.
The accounts and others like them amount to an autopsy of a failed presidency, but the process won’t be complete unless it is completely honest. To meet that test, the Times, other liberal news organizations and leading Democrats, in and out of office, must come to grips with their own failures, as well.
Obama had a free hand to make a mess because they gave it to him. They cheered him on, supporting him with unprecedented gobs of money and near-unanimous votes. They said “aye” to any cockamamie concept he came up with, echoed his demonization of critics and helped steamroll unpopular and unworkable ideas into reality.
Some of his backers knew better, and said so privately, but publicly they were all in. Whether it was ObamaCare, his anti-Israel position or the soft-shoe shuffle around the Iranian nuke crisis, they lacked the courage to object.
They said nothing as Obama went on foreign apology tours and stood silent as our allies warned of disastrous consequences. Even now, despite protests from a succession of Pentagon leaders, former Democratic defense hawks are helping Obama hollow out our military as Russia and China expand theirs and al Qaeda extends its footprint.

Chicago Anti-Violence Advocate Fatally Gunned Down

Leonore Draper had just returned home from a fundraiser for a teen anti-violence group when the shooting occurred.

Leonore Draper spent hours working to end violence on the streets of Chicago. But Friday, she became a victim of it herself when she was fatally gunned down outside of her home, NBC News reports.
The 32-year-old was shot in the arm and chest while returning home to her West Pullman neighborhood from a fundraiser for teen anti-violence group Project Orange Tree, the news station reports.
Shots rang out about 10:30 p.m. CDT Friday, police say. When they arrived at the scene, they found Draper in her car. A neighbor said she didn’t realize Draper had been shot until she saw the shattered car window.
“I saw her and I kept waiting for her to get out of her car but she didn’t and then I noticed her window was shot out,” Robin Anderson, a neighbor, told NBC. “She was 32. That’s it.”
Draper, a budget analyst for Chicago Public Schools and a freelance makeup artist, was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she later died, the report says.
