Political Payback: Rick Perry Indicted in Power Struggle with Democrat-Controlled DA Office

AUSTIN, Texas — A grand jury indicted Governor Rick Perry Friday for his attempts to remove Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg from office after she was arrested for driving while intoxicated last year in a case that made national headlines.

In April 2013, Lehmberg was arrested after a witness called 911, describing her as driving erratically, swerving back and forth into the bike lane, and into oncoming traffic. Officers at the scene reportedly found an open bottle of vodka in her car, and a blood sample obtained later that evening purportedly showed a blood alcohol level of 0.239—almost three times the legal limit—even that many hours later.
Not only did her arrest attracted headlines, but her belligerent behavior after she was brought to the police station—all captured on video tape—drew attention, as well. Lehmberg is seen blaming the police for destroying her political career, yelling and insulting them; demanding that they call Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton; sticking out her tongue; making faces; kicking at the door to her cell; and eventually getting restrained with leg irons, being strapped to a chair and wearing what is commonly referred to as a “spit mask,” which is usually used when a detainee is spitting or biting. To be fair, the video does not expressly show that happening, and Lehmberg’s defense attorney later claimed that the mask was used to “protect her identity.”

Lehmberg’s sentence, a fine and 45 days in jail, was most likely the highest in history in Travis County for a first-time DWI charge. The investigation into her case also revealed a less-than-flattering picture of her drinking habits. Subpoenaed receipts from Twin Liquors showed her buying 72 bottles of Cirroc vodka—totaling more than 23 gallons—in a 15-month period, and that Lehmberg spread her purchases out among different stores. This amount only covers purchases made with her credit card at that one liquor store chain, not cash purchases or alcohol obtained elsewhere.
In Texas, the district attorney is the county’s lead law enforcement officer, and the Travis County District Attorney has the additional responsibility of prosecuting public crimes under the Public Integrity Unit, leading to a loud outcry for Lehmberg’s resignation from lawmakers and public safety groups. State Rep. Phil King (R-Weatherford) sharply condemned her behavior, saying that what he’d seen on the videos from her arrest “showed incredible belligerence and disrespect” and an “utter contempt and disrespect for the law and for the office."
The Texas Local Government Code, in Chapter 87, allows public officials like district attorneys to be removed from office for "incompetency, official misconduct, habitual drunkenness, or other causes defined by law." The 1987 revision to the law added a single incidence of intoxication on or off duty as a potential cause for removal.

However, because Lehmberg is a Democrat, elected in Travis County, one of the most Democratic-heavy areas of the state, and Governor Perry, a Republican, would be able to pick her replacement, other Democrats quickly rallied to her defense. Other prosecutors who worked under Lehmberg publicly supported her remaining in office, as did State Senator Kirk Watson (D-Austin).
Frustrated with Lehmberg’s refusal to resign and maintaining his position that someone who had committed her offenses was not fit for office, either as the district attorney or as head of the Public Integrity Unit, Perry then announced plans to veto funding for the Public Integrity Unit unless Lehmberg resigned. Texas law clearly grants the governor the power to veto funding for the Public Integrity Unit and many other agencies, but Democrats supporting Lehmberg howled in protest.

The Travis County District Attorney’s office has a long history of politically-motivated prosecutions, including the 2005 indictment of former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay for alleged campaign finance violations. DeLay’s convictions were completely overturned and he was acquitted after an appeal to the Third District Texas Court of Appeals in 2013—too late to save his political career.

After This Tweet, Does Obama Still Expect Us To Think the World Respects Him?

Barack Obama would love for you to believe that the world both fears and respects us more under his presidency. But, like most other things that he says and promises, the facts of the situation prove that the reality he is trying to sell is a lie.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin tweeted a major slam to Obama making not just him, but the United States a laughingstock.

Congress goes after police

Lawmakers are targeting police with new and old pieces of legislation in the wake of riots in a St. Louis suburb sparked by the killing by a police officer of an unarmed black teenager.
Much of the focus has been on the heavy military equipment many local police agencies have received from the Pentagon under a 1991 law meant to combat drug dealers.

Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said Friday that program will not get a rubber stamp when it comes up for reauthorization later this year.Other lawmakers have raised concerns about racial profiling and excessive force against African Americans by police.
Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) called for passage of his End Racial Profiling Act, which would bar federal funding for law enforcement agencies unless the prohibit racial profiling.
The involvement of Cardin and Levin, who represent states far from Ferguson, Mo., the St. Louis suburb where 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed last Saturday, illustrates how the events in Missouri have reverberated throughout the country.
Demonstrations and protests about the police’s actions in Ferguson were held in dozens of cities on Thursday night, highlighting the pressure lawmakers around the country are feeling.
Six New York lawmakers have asked Attorney General Eric Holder to investigate the killing of Eric Garner, who died in an altercation with Staten Island police who had placed him in a chokehold.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), a prospective Republican candidate for president in 2016, has led bipartisan calls to demilitarize the police.
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, warned Friday that “equipping police officers with the tools of war does nothing to repair a torn community.”
And Levin (D-Mich.) said he would review a Pentagon program that provides weapons and heavy military equipment to police units.
Under the program, which serves 8,000 state and federal agencies, more than $5 billion worth of property was transferred to law enforcement, including nearly $450 million last year alone, according to the Defense Logistic Agency's website.

Former Florida Rep. Allen West declared President Obama an Islamist who is intentionally working against the security of the United States.
“The only plausible explanation for many actions taken by President Obama and his administration is that they are working counter to the security of the United States of America,” the former Florida congressman and retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel wrote in the post published Wednesday.
A few of the six examples he gives as to why are:
“The unilateral release of five senior Taliban back to the enemy while the enemy is still fighting us, providing weapons of support to the Muslim Brotherhood, negotiating with Hamas – a terrorist group and returning sanction money to the tune of billions of dollars back to the theocratic regime led by Iran’s ayatollahs and allowing them to march on towards nuclear capability.”
He also writes about Obama’s decision to lift the ban on Libyans attending a U.S. flight school and studying nuclear science – something that has been in place since 1983, according to the Washington Free Beacon.
“Can anyone explain what the strategy and objective is here in lifting this ban with a nation that is or should be on the terrorist watch list?” he asks. “Sorry, but I can only explain this one way: Barack Hussein Obama is an Islamist in his foreign policy perspectives and supports their cause.”
“The pivot away from the Middle East seems to be nothing more than an opportunity to enable Islamists and their goals. Anyone supporting this Libyan ban being lifted is indeed an enemy of the state.”

Malaysia Airlines MH370: Two arrested as £20,000 siphoned from passengers' bank accounts

A bank officer and her husband have been arrested after thousands of pounds were allegedly withdrawn from the accounts of four passengers who had been travelling on the still-missing flight MH370.

The Malaysia Airlines aircraft, which disappeared on 8 March as it travelled from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, had reportedly been targeted with £20,059 (111,000 Malaysian Ringgit) siphoned from accounts.
The cash was withdrawn in July from bank accounts with HSBC, and following an internal inquiry a police complaint was logged on 2 August.
HSBC has confirmed to The Independent that an employee of the bank has been suspended pending police investigations and that there will be no financial loss to the accounts affected.
A spokesperson said: "HSBC discovered and reported to the police a potential fraud on the accounts of four passengers of MH370 by an employee of the bank."

Former CIA Operative Drops Bombshell, Confirms LibertyNews.com Right About Obama’s Plans for Middle East All Along

LibertyNews.com has often been the lone voice in our analysis of Benghazi and the middle east in general. Our stories paint a dark picture that most media outlets refuse to look at. One of an Islam-friendly U.S. that is toppling dictators who tolerate Israel and replacing them with dictators who want to destroy Israel.
As it turns out, a former CIA operative is now confirming everything we’ve been saying.

According to the former CIA operative, President Obama’s plan for the Middle East is just what Osama bin Laden wanted: removing U.S. troops and putting the jihadis in power.
Lopez spent two decades in the field as a CIA operations officer; was an instructor for military intelligence and special forces students; has been a consultant, intelligence analyst and researcher within the defense sector; and has published two books on Iran. She currently manages the counterjihad and Shariah programs at the Center for Security Policy, run by Frank Gaffney, former assistant secretary of defense for international security policy during the Reagan administration.
Lopez told WND she sees a pattern in Obama’s actions, or inaction, that reveals his blueprint for the Middle East and Northern Africa is to let the warring jihadi factions, the Sunnis and the Shiites, divide the region into two spheres of influence, and for the U.S. to withdraw.
“The administration’s plan, I believe, is to remove American power and influence, including military forces, from Islamic lands,” Lopez asserted.
When WND remarked that was just what Osama bin Laden had demanded, Lopez pointed out that is the aim of all jihadis, “Because that is what Islam demands, that foreign forces be kicked out of Islamic lands.”
Does Obama think if we leave the Mideast the jihadis will then leave us alone?
“I don’t know,” she said. “I can just see the pattern that is enabling the rise of Islam, empowering the Muslim Brotherhood domestically and abroad, alienating and distancing ourselves from our friends and allies and debilitating the American military.”

So yes, the CIA and state department were arming Islam via Benghazi. We’ve been arming and funding Islam for several years now. And meanwhile back at home, Obama’s invasion at the southern border, his race wars in American society and his economy crippling legislation like Obamacare are going to weaken America to the point we can help Israel, or anyone else for that matter, when Islam begins to rise on a much larger scale.
And most Americans have no idea it’s all coming.

Hamas is firming its position: the organization will refuse postponing discussions of harbor and airport in Gaza.

The day before Cairo talks renew, Hamas is firming its position: a Hamas official said today that his organization will refuse an Egyptian agreement outline which includes postponing the discussion regarding the establishment of a harbor and airport in Gaza. The European Union has agreed to position its forces in Rafah Border Crossing.

Tomorrow morning discussions in Cairo are due to renew in attempt to reach a complete ceasefire agreement, however it seems as the gaps between the sides continue to be wide: Hamas official Ismail Redwan said on Saturday that his organization firmly opposes postponing discussions of founding a harbor and airport in Gaza.

According to Redwan, the Hamas delegation is continuing to consult the other Palestinian factions and the Palestinian Authority representatives in attempt to articulate an agreement document which will constitute a counter-document to the Egyptian outline. Palestinian media has reported that the Egyptian broker had informed the Palestinian delegation that the understandings document which had been distributed to the sides is the last one Egypt is preparing to regard.

A Palestinian news agency in Gaza reports that Palestinian Authority official Saib Arikat is due to meet Hamas leader Khaled Mashal in Doha, Qatar today. The two are due to discuss the Egyptian outline for a truce agreement. Later on Arikat is due to also meet Qatar's foreign affairs minister.

Head of Hamas delegation in Cairo, Mussa Abu-Marzok, published an aggressive tweet on Twitter this morning: "That who one in the battle of Gaza City borders and prevented the occupation soldiers from entering the city, will not answer the occupation terms on the negotiations table".

ISIS Responds to Airstrikes with a Message for America

On Friday morning, the U.S. began conducting airstrikes against the militant group the Islamic State (IS), formerly known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, and now jihadi websites are saying the leader of the group will be declaring “jihad against America.”
According to TheBlaze, the director of the Middle East Research Institute (MEMRI), Steve Salinski, said jihadi websites were lighting up on Friday saying that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi will be calling on Muslims around the world to attack the U.S. homeland.
Just before Obama announced the military will be conducting airstrikes against IS, the group released a video saying they would raise “the flag of Allah in the White House,” and called for Obama to send ground troops in to fight them.
“Don’t be cowards and attack us with drones,” Abu Mosa said. “Instead send your soldiers, the ones we humiliated in Iraq. We will humiliate them everywhere, God willing, and we will raise the flag of Allah in the White House.”
After the first round of strikes were carried out, MEMRI said that Twitter users associated with IS posted messages warning America to back off. Posting with the hashtag #AmessagefromISIStoUS, members of IS said the group had an “appointment in New York,” also saying, “Today Mosul and tomorrow Seattle.”

BOMBSHELL! 15 BENGHAZI WITNESSES KILLED…UNABLE TO TESTIFY!

With Congress officially in recess, Americans are anticipating the return of the House to Washington and the resumption of Congressman Trey Gowdy’s committee hearings on the September 11, 2012 terror attacks against a U.S. diplomatic mission and nearby CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens.

A number of previous investigations have taken place, but failed to uncover all of the relevant facts that Americans want and deserve to know. Gowdy has promised to uncover the truth surrounding the attacks and their immediate aftermath, and the number and fame of some of the witnesses he may call to do so could be remarkable.
Unfortunately, however, there are 15 witnesses that he might like to call but cannot. All 15 of them have been killed in the two years since the attacks under investigation.
